Showing Slides out of order

I have a slide show that sometimes is used automatically to run through all
the slides but sometimes the speaker needs to "hop around" in the slide show.
Is there a way to do this? I disable the timer function then show the first
slide that he wants. Then he wants to skip to slide 5, right now what I have
to do is hit esc and get out of the show select slide 5 then show it. Is
there a way I can just skip straight to the 5th slide? I tried just double
clicking on the new slide but that doesn't work.

Also is there a way to fade out the screen? I know you can use B/W to
blackout/whiteout the screen but it's so quick and ugly looking, would rather
have it fade out or something.

Using Powerpoint 2007 on a Powerpoint 97-03 formatted Powerpoint file.

Thanks,

You can jump to any slide by typing the slide number and pressing return. You
can also right-click on the screen and select the slide from the list. If you
use Presenter View you can see the slides on the left of the screen and click
on the one you want to project. You could have a slide that is just a black
dissolve that you could go to when you wish. I'm sure there will be other
answers, but I hope this helps to start with.
