'show desktop'

I never new the importance of this icon on my quick launch, until recently.
Sometimes I want to see the desktop to look for something and have to
minimize my browsers down in order for me to look at my desktop. ALthough I
am not sure, i think that this icon, 'show desktop', is useful so that one
doesnt have to minimize everything. Is that so?
Well, if so, I deleted this icon/shortcut long ago and want to get it back.
can you shoe me how to?
