Should I install Via 4-in-1 Driver Package (A7V8X-X)?

Hi,

I have my new A7V8X-X board working with Windows XP. So far, I've just
been using whatever default IDE drivers XP installs, plus an update from
Windows Update last night.

I was exploring Asus' website, and saw the Via 4-in-1 package and also
read the page about miniport vs. filter, and I was wondering, at this
point, should I install the 4-in-1 driver package from Asus' website?

Would it improve anything?

Thanks,
Jim

Hi,

According to Toms Hardware, they did a benchmark a while back comparing the
Windows XP SP1 drivers and the via 4 in 1 and concluded the XP drivers are
fine. That was some time ago - perhaps things have changed. However Via took
a while to sort out their own drivers.

Personally, if the system is stable & you are satisfied with the disc system
performance then leave it alone. If you are unsure then do a benchmark and
search for results to compare with.

If you have the choice between MS Certified drivers and others, then err on
the side of the certified ones - they won't necessarily be fastest, but
since they have passed WHQL certification can be relied on.
