shortcut to cd rom doesn't work...

I have a toolbar that with short cuts to my cd-roms, I have a dvd as
primary, and rw as secondary.

I draged the shortcuts from my computer onto my toolbar.

The one for my dvd works but the RW doesnt...although, the icon on the
toolbar shows the icon of the CD I have in the drive.


when I click it, I get this error.
[Problem with Shortcut]
/!\ The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'CD Drive.lnk' refers
to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is roperly inserted or the
network resource is available then try again.
[OK]

any ideas?

Open Control Panel > Add/Remove programs and uninstall the Microsoft
WindowsUpdate hotfix "821557"

Thanks, that fixed the similar problem on networked resources too.

This error is introduced with the security update 821557 (MS03-027). If you
don't want to uninstall 821557, you can call Microsoft to obtain a fix:

Desktop Shortcut to the 3 1/2 Inch Disk Drive or to the CD-ROM Drive Does Not

As the article states, you need to call Microsoft Product Support Services to
obtain it (outside the US, customers should contact their local Microsoft
subsidiary.). The support call will be be free as long as you refer to the
Knowledge Base Article number (Q824143) and ask for nothing more.
