XP home edition, was infected with blaster and then also
with Welchia, after cleaning the infection all shortcuts
or .lnk files are now associated to wordperfect 10. Yes
all shortcuts on the system are broken in that they will
only open wordperfect or any other program i decide to
change the association to. Quite comical but annoying.
Running the respective programs directly works normally,
creating new shortcuts does not work. Unable to specify
individual associations to these since they are all .lnk
files, change one and they all change. The paths for
each shortcut do point to the correct executables.
Since .lnk's are not done in the normal place (file
types) does anyone know of a fix to restore the necessary
registry keys back to normal? From what I've found so
far, there are a lot of registry keys involved.
I have not ruled out further virii yet, a scan is
running. And a format might be my only option here
unless there is a known fix that i just can't find.
