Shortcut key to resize all columns according to data width

I am fairly new to excel, but learning very fast and liking it a lot.

I have one problem. when I open some comma separated files, I alway
have to select the whole sheet and double click on the column border a
the top to resize all columns to the width of the data contained i
those columns.

I was wondering if there was a shortcut which could save me those fe
mouse clicks, and do the same job automatically for me.

I dont want to create a macro for this as I felt it redundant to creat
something which might already exist as a shortcut key in exce

Hi topstar

If there is any function that is shorter than Ctrl A and a single
border-click, I can't think of it!

ok Andy, thanks for that. I guess there is no shortcut key for tha
then.

I have a task which does make me a bit tired of doing it so often.

The problem with ctrl-a and a mouseclick on the border is, that th
mouse click is not "a single click".

First of all you have to take your hand away from the keyboard to th
mouse, then you need to drag the mouse to the column headers (the A,B,
etc) and then you need to position the mouse exactly over one of th
borders in order to get the cross shaped cursor, and finally you hav
to double click.

Most importantly, I am not so good at double clicks, as I inadvertentl
move the mouse a bit at the second click which results in the actio
changing the selection to just a single column rather than the whol
worksheet.

Maybe, I need to program a small macro and assign a character t
that.

Can you (or anyone else) please tell me, if there is a list somewher
which tells us all the characters used up by Excel, and therefore, ar
not a good idea to use as a shortcut key in a Macro.

Thank

I thought you'd never get round to it: record your own macro: it's th
way to avoiding a heck of a lot of tedious work.
