~ shortcut icon appearing on desktop

Every few days a shortcut appears on the desktop with a tilde~ for a label.
I've looked at the properties and it's being stored in My Documents, one
file 132K. I haven't clicked on it because I don't know what it is or what
it'll do. I delete it and a few days later it comes back. I've scanned for
virus. Adware found "Coremetrics" and deleted it but that doesn't seem to
have made any difference. Any ideas?

It is a copy of your address book. There's a bug with the address book and
outlook express that creates this file. Just delete and ignore until the fix
comes out, which I would think would be in the upcoming SP2 update.
