sp xp2, Mcafee Security suite ver 7.2 with f-wall, av, + spyware, and
Windows Defender.
Both have real time protection altho defender is just spyware. Does this
create a possible conflict?

Yes, Both Defender and McAfee will conflict, every time you want to install
an application or Visit a site each one will issue a warning and pick up on
each other.
Just leave the Real time protection for the Anti-virus with Firewall
(McAfee) to protect your system and scan with defender for malware.
