Shell Hardware Detection Slow after SP2

S

Selden McCabe

After many trials-and-errors, I discovered that the "Shell Hardware
Detection" service slows my pc way down when booting up after installing
SP2.

If I disable this service, everything boots up normally. If I enable it,
boot-up takes about 10 minutes.

How do I troubleshoot this problem?

By the way, this web site has a wealth of great troubleshooting tips for
SP2:

Howdy,

I'm having the same issue with the Shell Hardware
Detection service. The service seems to provide Autorun
run features for CD drives and digital cameras etc. It
also seems to have something to do with Windows Install
Programs as I couldn't install any programs when it was
disabled(Norton Antivirus or a Windows Update file). Can
you could post your system specs so we can compare (ie
see what devices we have in common which may not have a
compatible driver for the new update - I suspect the RAID
driver).

My System
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 (F11 BIOS)
AMD 2700+ XP CPU
