Sheet Column Headings and Row Labels

Please remind me how to change the Font size, Width, Height of:

1) Sheet Column Headings at the top: A, B, C, ... (Font size & the row Height)

2) Sheet Row Labels on the left: 1, 2, 3, ... (Font size & the col. Width)

The option to do the desired changes must be under Tools::Options. Right ??

Thank you.

Goto the 'Tools' menu and select 'Options'.
Click the 'General' tab.
There should be a Standard font section. You can change the size there.
You'll need to exit Excel and come back in before the change takes effect.

PCLIVE;

The Tools::Options::General::Standard font only affects the default font on
the sheet itself, not the font in the sheet column headings at the top (A, B,
C, ...) or the sheet row lables on the left (1, 2, 3, ...), and obviosly not
their height and width respectively.

As for the Row and Column headers, this did work for me once I closed and
reopend Excel. And since the fonts of the headers increased, so did the
width and height of the columns and rows. However, the default text size
for the cells was also increased to this size. I don't know of any way to
change the default Row height and Column width.

Sorry,
Paul

Paul;

Let me rephrase my earlier statement to read: "The Tools::Options::General::
Standard font affects the default font & default row height & default column
width of the sheets in NEW workbooks, including the sheets row and column
headings. But it does not change anything in existing worksheets /
workbooks."

Here is the situation. My algorithm opens 4 workbooks (XL 2003, Windows
XP), and arranges them nicely on a single screen for easy reference and
manipulation of the data / results. The 4 displayed worksheets have the same
row heights, same column widths, and same standard font. But because 2 of
the worksheets have (mysteriously!) larger font in the column and row
headings, the sheets columns and rows don't align perfectly on the 4 windows.

A while ago, and unintentionally I might add, I came across the way to
change the sheet row and column headings (font, height, width, and even the
heading text!!). Unfortunately, I don't remember how !!.

Thanks for the efort.

Ok,

Not trying to annoy you or anything...

Click the top-left block of the worksheet (empty block in header bar between
"1" and "A").
Then right-click on the current worksheet tab and choose 'Select All
Sheets'.
Next, right-click anywhere in the selected area and select 'Format Cells'.
Select the 'Font' tab. You can change the font size for the current
workbook here.

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but it may help you
remember how you did it before.

I'm afriad none of the attempts so far has produced the desired results.
The option is likely hidden somewhere in a submenu or advanced button, and
it may even involve multiple steps. There is also the possibility that the
option is no longer available in the latest version (XL 2003)!

In any event, I'll let you know should I remember how to do it.

Thanks.

Have you tried Format>Style>Normal>Modify.

Change the Font size there for current workbook.

Will affect column and row headers as well as cell fonts(which can be changed
back to what they were).

Gord;

Great! Your approach, though might not be exactly what I tried successfully
a while back, but it works fine!

In order to do the changes and still maintain the cells properties, row
heights, column widths, etc.:
1. open the workbook you want to reformat its worksheets' row and column
headings. Let us call it the Calc w/b
2. open a new w/b
3. select a w/s, say Test1, from the Calc w/b, and click the top-left
block. Right-click and copy the w/s
4. select Sheet1 of the new w/b, and PasteSpecial::Formats
5. back to the Calc w/b. From the menu bar:
.....Format::Style::normal::Font::modify ... > OK
(The modifications affect all the worksheets in this Calc w/b. In my case,
I modified the Font in the dialog box from Arial 12 to Arial 10)
6. select Sheet1 from the new w/b, click the top-left block, and
right-click and copy the w/s
7. back to w/s Test1 of the Calc w/b, and PasteSpecial::Formats
8. repeat steps 3 to 7 above for all the worksheets in the Calc w/b, if so
desired

Thanks again for your help.
