SHDOCVW.dll a problem?

I recently noticed my machine bogging down; some investigation turned up the
following data. I've tried to make this as brief as I can.

Notes / Data:
* I use the Process Explorer utility (www.sysinternals.com) to see what's
running in the system; the main window shows all running processes along with
the percentage of processor load each consumes. (100% = maximum.)
* From the main window, I open a window for the Internet Explorer process in
use to downstream during the test. The "Behavior" conditions described below
are those threads running within the Internet Explorer process.
* I use the System Idle Process thread as a measure of available processor
capacity (because if nothing else needs the processor, System Idle will
happily suck it up.)
* System: XP Home v5.1.2600; SP2; Office XP Pro 2002; IE v6.0.2900.2180; 2.6
gig processor; 768 meg RAM

Behavior:
* I first noticed the behavior on the Air America Radio streaming site; that
is where it is most pronounced, and is where all the test data that follows
was gathered. It involves only streaming audio.
* On the site, sitting idle: about 25 program threads run within the
process, incurring various negligible processor loads. iexplore.exe is most
active, and incurs a processor load varying from 0%-50%.
* Beginning to downstream- RealPlayer opens & runs (but not within the
Internet Explorer process thread window); iexplore.exe continues to run as
above; SHDOCVW.dll opens in the thread window; it loads the processor 40%-60%
(average), in addition to the iexplore.exe load.
* SHDOCVW.dll will occasionally drop to a load of 0%-5%, but the miracle
will reverse itself in short order. Even after the server times out and
terminates the streaming connection, SHDOCVW.dll continues to run (to
infinity), behaving as above.
* SHDOCVW.dll program only opens on a very small number of other streaming
sites, but doesn't seem to incur the processor load when it does open on
those sites.
* Using RealPlayer or Windows Media Player has no impact.

I am not the village idiot, but I AM NOT A PROGRAMMER! I understood just
enough to collect and present this data, and I may not have done that
correctly or completely. I do need help, though, because this situation slows
the machine to a crawl. Beyond that, I'm concerned that something more
insidious is going on? Please help me understand the situation and fix it!
Thanks in advance……

Go here and give McAffee Error Doctor a free tryout. They say it finds what
bogs you down.

Problems are:
* I tried the Mcafee program; it snares you with a "free" download, runs a
scan, and then won't allow you to do anything with the results unless you
purchase it.
* I have a registry fixer utility built into System Suite, which I've run to
no avail.
* I'm really not technically savvy enough to understand the results of such
a scan; I can only take the advice the software gives me.
* My meager knowledge and gut feeling says that it's not a registry problem
(SHDOCVW.dll sucks up a lot of processor resources; why?)
Any other ideas?
