Sharing Win2000 folder with Win98?

K

Kerry

I am trying to share a folder on a win2000 box with a
win98 box. I can see the win2000 from the win98, but when
I try to connect a password box comes up and none of the
passwords I use on either machine works. The win2000 is
not a domain controller, both machines are connected
through a router attached to a cable modem. How can I
share without any passwords OR where do I change the
passwords? Share is enabled on both machines.

Thanks,

Kerry

Create an account on both computers that is identical. I.E. same
username/password. Log into the win98 computer with that username/password.
Alternatively but not as secure, you could activate the guest account on
the win2k.

Win2k unlike win98 is a networking OS and needs to know who is connecting
to its shares/resources. Because you have a P2P network, you do not have a
user database from which the win2k can authenticate users/connections.
