Sharing Folders Windows XP Home Network

Bryan

I'm having difficulty getting my laptop to share folders.

I select Start:My Computer:My Documents then I highlight a folder (or even
My Documents) and right click to select Share Folders, but the option is
greyed out and therefore sharing is not an option.

I'm running my laptop as a wireless and I was able to successfully link it
to my printer connected to the desktop.

Any help:?

Why LAN? My connection is wireless.

So I selected Start:My Networks (right-clicked):properties. No File and
Print Sharing found. Same for my x-ed out LAN icon. All I found through my
wireless icon were a bunch of old icons from when this laptop used to have a
wireless file sharing capability (prior to having a crashed hard drive
replaced).

As I said, from my wireless laptop I am able to use the printer that is
connected to my desktop. To me that implies that I should be able to file
share wirelessly between the two computers. That could, however, just be
hopeful ignorance on my part.

Whenever 2 or more machines are connected together to share data/devices,
be it wired or wireless, and they do not connect via external source , it
is considered a Local Area Network. If they connect together via an
external source, then it is considered a WAN.

If F&P Sharing is not present in Network properties list of
components/protocols, then it must be added/installed.
Please post what is listed on each machine.
