Sharing files on workgroup

Hi:

We have several computers at our house. I need to be able to access them
all (signed in as me with my password), from one computer. However, I do not
want others who sign in under their name and password on one or more of the
computers on our home workgroup to be able to access those all the folders.
We have XP on all the computers.

It used to be on W2K that you could give access to a particular user with a
particular password rather than to just anyone on the workgroup (even if that
user had admin properties on one computer) unless his/her user name and
password was listed with access on one of the other computers, they could not
access via Network. How do I do that on Windows XP?

Oh and by the way, all the users are full users since the "limited users"
function still does not work properly. I have had a case in to MS for a long
time now and they have never gotten back to me with a solution. So "limited
user" is not an option.

Thanks.

That would in dicate to me that you have some sort of problem you shouldn't
sit on your thumbs waiting for something from MS that will never come. Any
help you get may be offset by whatever the problems are that currently exist
making trying to help you with your stated problem difficult.
IMO, Go after the original account problem first.

XP does not use passwords to protect resources. It uses permissions
instead. Here is information to help you with that:

How to disable Simple Sharing and set permissions on a shared folder in
Windows XP (Pro only)
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307874

HOW TO: Set, View, Change, or Remove File and Folder Permissions in
Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308418

By default in XP Home, you can only make files and folders under My
Documents "private". Otherwise, to see the security tab in WinXP Home,
restart in Safe mode and log on with an account that has administrator
privileges. To get into Safe Mode, repeatedly tap the F8 key as the
computer is starting up. This will get you to the menu where you can
choose Safe Mode.

Note that the file system must be NTFS, not FAT32.

Passwording of folders is not supported unless you zip them. When you do
(right click a folder, then "send to > compressed folder") and then open
the zip file, you will find an option under file>"add a password".
Otherwise, use third-party software. Google "password protect folders".

If you are using XP home this security feature is not available. In XP
pro
it is the same as W2K. Sharing -- Permissions -- add or remove...
For my small network I added _my name_ and removed _everyone_
