The end point at my end is my work computer (BOKPC) that is running VPN.

Yep I think so.
How often is the VPN active? If BOKPC is on the VPN, it may be connected
directly to your work LAN, and may be trying to use WINS from there to resolve
names.
Some VPN clients, that end on personal computers (as opposed to NAT routers),
will dedicate the entire bandwidth of that computer to the VPN. In effect, the
computer will drop off the local LAN.
Other VPN clients, if they allow a local computer to use local resources also,
need to be configured for local name resolution. Does your VPN client have a
selection for local or remote resolution?
