Hi:
I've looked around some sites to answer my question but I haven't seen it
clearly so here it goes. I have a DSL connection over a Zoom X5 5554
Moden/Router/Gateway/Firewall/4 Port Switch. My ISP provider gave me a sheet
with 4 LAN IPs and 4 WAN IPs. They configured one PC and it can connect to
the internet. I was hoping to connect a second one through the same
router/modem, without going through the first PC but I haven't been
successful at it. I don't know how to do it but I'm very knowledgeable on
everything else regarding my PC. How do I set the configuration on the
router and on the PC so it can also connect independently to the net? The
first PC has XP Pro and the second XP Home.

Thanks,
Alonso

I'd contact your ISP for help. They're the ones who set up your
Internet connection and know how to configure the computers and the
router.

My ISP changed the Telco interface outside, handed me the DSL modem and
said, "have a nice day". Fortunately, the clerk at Office Max was more
knowledgeable than the telephone company. He sold me a Netgear Web Safe
Router RP614 and took time to explain the setup. It was simple and easy to
hook up. No problem accessing the internet from either computer.

Hi

Use the Ethernet port and leave the USB port Open.

If the Modem/Router has only one Ethernet port you need to buy a 4 ports
switch.

Plug the switch to the Modem/Router's Ethernet port, and plug the computers
to the switch.

Since you have a Router you do not need the 4 WAN IPs. The Router use one
WAN IP and split the connection between the computers (That what Routers
do).

The ISP does not need to give you LAN IPs it is up to you to decide how you
would like to configure the LAN IPs.

The Modem/Router Manual might be a good friend too:

This page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings,
and Sharing: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing.html
