Sharing a Contacts Folder

D

Don

This is under Windows XP Pro and Office 2003 on an Exchange server .......

In Outlook I created a new contacts folder (at the same level as the default
contacts folder) called 'Contacts (Test)' under my main Exchange "mailbox".
I updated the permissions to 'Contacts (Test)' to include the user I want to
share this folder with, and gave him "reviewer" privileges (basically
read-only).

From his account, he selected File->Open->Other User's Folder and up popped
a dialog box asking for a username and with a drop down listing the folder
types. Filled in my username and selected 'Contacts' and hit OK. It came
back along the lines of "contacts folder not visible.

Changed the properties of the Exchange mailbox to add the user as a
reviewer. No Luck. Went as far as having the other user add my account to
those opened by him (Tools->E-mail Accounts->View/Change->Advanced ....).
He could then open my mailbox, but nothing was visible.

So at this point, I am stumped! Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Don

Sounds like you didn't give Folder Visible permission to the top-level of your mailbox.

Sue,

At the Mailbox level, the user has 'reviewer' permissions which include
'read items' and 'folder visible'. Interestingly, he can see this when
going the route of (Tools->E-mail Accounts->View/Change->Advanced ....). I
even increased the permissions on the folder to 'publishing author'.

Is sharing only allowed among the "default" folders (i.e. "Contacts",
"Calendar", etc)? Or maybe is there some Exchange permissions that our
company has set that prohibits folder sharing? Maybe if I exit and restart
Outlook?

Thanks!

Don

To view non-default folders in another person's mailbox, the user needs to add the mailbox to the Exchange account settings, which it sounds like they've already done. It wouldn't hurt to restart Outlook.

Don

Sue,

Well, part of the problem was that we were not looking at a folder (or
contact) view in the navigation pane!

All is fine now!

Thanks!!

Don
