Sharepoint Lists - Outlook using internal URL instead of external

We have recently published our MOSS 2007 site externally (using a trusted
certificate), and want to be able to add Sharepoint Lists to Outlook as
normal. This does work but Outlook will try and connect to the internal URL
first, which causes a certificate error when used internally.

Using Outlook 2007 SP2

Externally you get this:
https://internalURL - fails
http://internalURL - fails
https://externalURL - success

Internally you get this:
https://internalURL - success - certificate name missmatch error as
internalURL does not equal externalURL

The new externalURL does resolve internally, so it would be good if Outlook
could just use this URL. We had thought about removing the original
internalURL, but it is likely to be embedded in user documents etc... so
can't be removed.

Is there a way to get Outlook to look for the external URL first? Or will we
just have to request a new trusted certificate with the external URL and
internal URL?

Apologies if this is more a sharepoint issue than an Outlook issue.

AFAIK; you cannot change this.

In your case, I'd go for a SAN certificate which includes all the aliases.
You could do some republishing with and without certificates as well but you
are getting yourself in a big complicated mess then.

Otherwise, simply take the bullet and change the internal address for your
SharePoint List as well. This would also make sure that all (future) links
in documents of other applications are using a single (external) address, so
they would always be resolvable. Using a single address makes more sense if
things need to be available internally and externally and you make
cross-references to other documents.
