I have two XP Home PCs in a workgroup. One of them has a USB Canon
printer
that is shared. On the other PC, I can see the shared printer and I
can
print to it but when I click on Properties it takes 45 seconds for
the
Properties Dialog box to open. Once it opens, it takes another 45
seconds
to bring up the Printing Preferences dialog box if I click on that.
How can
I fix this? Thanks.
I have exactly the same problem. My server is 3 months old with
XP-home. My Laptop has XP-Pro. I have 3 printers connected to the
server - a Canon i9900 and two HPs. The "Printing Preferences"
responds across the network almost instantly for the two HPs, but I
have the same 45 second delay that you see when I access the Canon
preferences or properties from my Laptop. I get the same 45 second
delay EVERY time that I access the preferences, even if the dialog was
closed only one second previously. If I print directly from the
server, there is no delay.
When I access files on the server from my laptop, there is a similar 20
second delay for the first access, but there is no delay as long as I
periodically access files across the network. If there is no network
activity for at least 10 minutes (I have not experimented to find the
exact time), the network connection seems to be "lost" and must be
reestablished with the same 20 second delay penalty. I do not
experience any delays when changing tabs or information in the
preferences dialog once it appears. I contacted Canon's tech support
and was told that they do not support this printer on a network.
Is it possible that Canon built this "feature" into their software to
discourage printing through the Photo Printing Wizard or other programs
(i.e. Photoshop) that allow user adjustable color management? Note that
Canon's "Easy PhotoPrint" experiences no such delays across the network,
but that it does not allow color management for papers or inks other
than Canon products (it ignores the default settings in Printing
Preferences)?
I would love to see a fix, if anyone knows of one.
