Share a Printer connected to Windows 2000

Then it isn't the printer share itself that's the problem. Is the
USERname different than the comuter name? Just for test purposes put an
Admin user on BOTH PC's, Username "John" with "password" as the password
and then logon to BOTH PC'S with "John" and then try to access the printer.

Hi Bob; I have checked the Security Tab for the Shared Printer and the
"Allow" is checked for "Print", "Manage Printers" and "Manage Documents" for
the Username liza which is the Username for the Windows XP PC. I am NOT able
to map any shared folders on the Windows 2000 PC to the Windows XP PC. Still
willnot work...

:

The part that bothers me is that with the Same Username, password and
Workgroup on both PC's, is that It shouldn't be asking for a
username/password! Double check permissions on that share. As backup
test are you able to map folders and drives without this trouble?

Hi Richard & Bob; I removed the share on the printer connected to the Windows
2000 PC, rebooted the Windows 2000 PC. I then shared the printer again on the
Windows 2000 PC. I then rebooted the Windows XP PC, turned off Windows
Firewall and tried to connect to the shared printer. Same problem. Just will
not connect. I guess it can't be done or I am still missing something. Any
more suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

:

The only other suggestion I can come up with at this point is to delete and
re-create the printer share.

Hi Richard; Okay I tried turning off the XP Firewall, but it still asks
for a
Username and Password and still fails to connect. Boy this is frustrating.
Anything else to try? Thanks...

:

Temporarily disable the XP firewall and see if you can connect to the
printer at that point.

Hi Richard; The Windows 2000 PC doesn't have any Firewall. The Windows
XP
PC
have the Windows Security Center and under the Windows Firewall
Exceptions
"File and Printer Sharing" is checked. This means that File and Printer
Sharing is NOT blocking incoming connections so I should be able to
connect
to the shared Printer connected to the Windows 2000 PC. This is my
understanding. What do I check for next. Thanks....

Do you have firewall software running on either computer?

Thanks Richard; Okay I created the new User with the same Username
and
Password that is used on the Windows Xp PC and gave the permissions
as
Administrator. Same problem. When you try to add the shared printer,
it
still
asks for Username and Password which doesn't work. Anymore more
suggestions
please.

Sorry, I need instructions on how to create a User on the Windows

How do I do this? Thanks...

Create a user on the Windows 2000 computer that has the same

and
password that are used to log onto the Windows XP computer.

Hi Tex
I have watched this post with great interest!
Have a similar problem, my printer is networked so I can access it BUT,
I can not map any drives on the w2kpro machine from the XP pro machine with
out it asking for Username and Password which doesn't work.
However from the w2K back to XP no problems, both systems have same
"workgroup" and logon as "administrator" and "password".
So when you find out how to fix it let me known.
Watching with interest.

Hi All;
I have tried all the suggestions and it just will not work with having the
Shared Printer connected to the Windows 2000 PC and then trying to connect to
that Shared Printer from the Windows XP PC. I have given up. One solution
might be to remove the Shared Printer from being connected to the Windows
2000 PC and then connect it to the Windows XP PC. As I can access the Shared
Files located on the Windows XP PC from the Windows 2000 PC, this might work.
It just isn't an option in my case due to a space problem. The work around I
am using now is just to e-mail anything I want printed to the e-mail on the
Windows 2000 PC and then printing from there. Not the most desirable, but
does work. I sure there is an answer, but I can't seem to find it. Confused
and disappointed.....
