What are the security settings on the printer shared from the XP Media
Center machine?
Printer, Properties, Security
Verify Everyone is allowed Print rights.
Also on the XP machine, verify that the Guest account is enabled since
you
do not require passwords (it sounds like it already is).
Also from the Vista machine, you should be able to view the directory
contents of the print$ share on the XP machine
dir \\XPmachinename\print$
If you do not get the directory list then you will need access to this
to
get the driver files.

Is UAC enabled or disabled on the Vista PC?
I haven't a clue, guide me to it, and I can give you a definative
answer.
In the Properties of the printer (on the MCE PC) is i9900 the Shared
name
of
the printer?
It was i9900, I have renamed it to CANONPRINTER and still No acccess.
It
can
be seen when adding a printer in Vista, but gives me "Acess is Denied
"
when
trying to connect to it.
update.... there is an update for that printer on the Canon website
but
no
info as to whether the update is for the Vista PC or the XP PC, so I
installed it on both and now it seems to be fine.
I have Installed the Addon for Vista and the Version 1.75 driver in
XP.
All
drivers are up to date.
On the Vista PC, what are you Network settings? (found in the
Network and
Sharing Center)
I'm presuming since you say MSHome this is not a Domain (and set to
Private
Network)...
in mine: Network Discovery: On
File Sharing: On
Public folder sharing: On
Printer sharing: On
Password protected sharing Off
Media Sharing On

In the Properties of the printer (on the MCE PC) is i9900 the Shared
name
of
the printer? I have an MCE 2005 with an i950 on the USB port (as
well as
a
Lexmark Optra S on the parallel).... again, no UserNames or
Passwords and
my
Vista PCs can see both OK... the Optra installed automatically, the
i950
shared when I installed it on the Vista but said it needed a driver
update.... there is an update for that printer on the Canon website
but
no
info as to whether the update is for the Vista PC or the XP PC, so I
installed it on both and now it seems to be fine.
Because you are posting on the forums, as opposed to the Newsgroups,
some
people do get lost.... if you open Windows Mail on the Vista PC, you
will
see they are already set up for the Microsoft Newsgroups. It's a
lot
quicker and easier to find responses through these.

Cari, I have posted here 2 or three times ! Look on the forum
post.
Left
High
and dry Each and everytime. And for those who think its a simple
rant,
then
why all the same problems as everyone else. Problems with Network
printing
?
I admit I'm no Pro but I am not a Novice Either. I do setup
networks
with
no
problems.
Cari to say it all again.......
Laptop = Vista Home Premium, Networkname = MSHOME, Printer Sharing
On
Desktop = XP Media Center Home, Networkname = MSHOME, Printer and
Files
Shared ( Can share , delete, copy files, but can not access
printer )
Get "ACCESS DENIED " when trying to print from Laptop to Desktop.
There are No Passwords assigned as I am the Administrator on both
Machines.
Have tried the \\computer\printername\ option to no avail.
Again look further down the post and you will see where I was left
high
and
dry with no answers.
Now if you think you have a solution then please let me know.
Thank you
Yes Vista Sees the Printer ( Canon i9900 ).
:
Sigh... perhaps you did not read the part of Microsoft's website
that
says
installation problems are not charged for... unless of course
it's an
OEM
version of Vista, in which case it's the PC manufacturer's
responsibility
to
support it.
Since you don't even tell us any details of your 'network
printing
problem'
how are we supposed to solve it?

MS has screwed the consumer once again ! Look at all these
problems
!
The
only thing that will cause them to admit they blew it is
another
lawsuit.
Look at all these damned network printing problems. Call MS
they say
Call
The
computer Mfg Company. Call the Computer Mfg Compnay and they
Say its
a
Vista
Problem. Then MS WIL NOT SUPPORT THIER OWN SYSTEM WITHOUT
WANTING TO
CHARGE
$75 an Hr. !!! BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS MS !
