Shading every other line

Stephanie

Is there a way to shade every other line in my spreadsheet
without going line by line?

I checked out that site, but still can't get it to work.
Here's what I'm putting in:
=MOD(ROW()-A3,1*2)+1>1

What am I doing wrong?

Stephanie,

The formula is correct. What do you mean when you say it doesn't work?

No shading shows up in the cells. The spreadsheet doesn't
look any different.

What I'm hoping for is something like:
Line 1 (shaded)
Line 2 (no shading)
Line 3 (shaded)
Line 4 (no shading)
Etc.

Thanks for sticking with me. I'd love to get this figured
out. :>

Hi Stephanie,

You are very close.

Following along from Chip's site and your comments, try these steps:

1) Select the area you wanted "banded"
2) Format | Conditional Formatting
3) Enter this equation...=MOD(ROW()-1,2)+1<=1
4) Be sure to hit the format button and choose a pattern
5) OK

Now you have your banded area on the spreadsheet.

Kevin
