SFC Scannow?

I have XP-SP2 working fine on my PC currently. But my
Dell recovery disk is only SP1, I also have the SP2 CD
from Microsoft, as yet I haven't been able to resolve the
slipstreaming issues with my OEM disk and sp2.

My question is, if I run sfc, should I insert the OEM
recovery disk or the SP2 disk, or is it necessary to
complete the slipstream disk in order to use this utility?

Thank in Advance

If you need to use Scannow, try using the SP2 disk, and if it needs the previous file, then use the install CD with SP1. SP2 cannot be slipstreamed (as far as I have tried anyway) onto a disk that already has updates on it (i.e. SP1).

SFC in Windows XP will look in Windows\ServicePackFiles\i386 for updated files.
The XP CD is only required for core files that have not been changed by subsequent
Service Pack updates.

If you wish to make a new updated Windows XP CD with SP2 "slipstreamed"
(i.e. integrated), this can be easily accomplished:

AutoStreamer 1.0.33

Tom, SP2 can be slipstreamed into an OEM SP1 CD. I've done it and it works
fine. (See Autostreamer in another answer here.)

Not with the method you gave a link for, but autostreamer has no problem
with it at all. I've used mine on several occasions to reinstall windows
with no problems.

But he stated he has XP with SP1, you cannot integrate SP2 into it, only
into the "Gold" release version.

Autostreamer will not integrate SP2 into a SP1 version of XP; been there, and tried that. If that worked for you, then why did you ask about Scannow, with the use of using SP1 XP and just the SP2 disk after you stated you had issues slipstreaming accordingly????? Unless you're replying to Carey, then you can ignore this post, and learn to post inline to the correct respondent.

It was clearly addressed to you, and yes it does work using Autostreamer
(plus Nero)

Perhaps you and Carey are correct, but I remember having the error (as I linked earlier) even using the Autostreamer. I am not going to to try again, since I have been successful into making a slipstreamed version of my XP PRO-SP1 into an SP2 version, by making folder changes.

Folder changes would be beyond me! At least we both managed to do it.
