sfc /scannow wants XP Pro Service Pack Cd/I have original CD only

Hi guys,

hope someone can help me. I recently lost all sound.
Have done several system restores, but these have not
restored sound. Have checked and checked and checked
BIOS. All sound is enabled. Have uninstalled and
reinstalled (again and......)original inbuilt sound device
and (sound blaster card added after original sound
device/sound would not work. One of the trouble shooting
options tells me to check volume (this icon has
disappeared) and when I try to do this the option window
for sound adjustment does not appear and I get the error
message that mixer device is missing.

So decided that sfc /scannow sounded good, but, I can't
get past the starting point. It asks for the service pack
CD - I downloaded the service pack directly to my system,
and I don't have any option for system file restore when I
go directly into the original Upgrade XP PRO CD. It also
tells me that I may not have the CD that agrees with the
key (better have, I paid a lot for this!!)or that there
may be problems with the CD drive. I only have one CD
drivewhich is a Sony CDRW.

There must be a way to restore what I presume are damaged
files without having to completely resintall???

Help please.

If you have the 5.1 series,or similiar, open device mgr,
under sounds icon delete all, close out, restart computer.
On desktop,go to windows update,it has the sound blaster
drivers.Make sure all is uninstalled before restart. For
Sfc,are you typing that in cmd prompt, run doesnt work.

To make a legal SP1 install cd image on the hard drive copy the xp cd to
your hard drive and slip stream the sp into the directory.

http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp1_cd.htm

when asked for an sp1 cd direct to this folder.

As for the sound card, it may help to completely remove the sound card,
reboot and insure the drivers are removed, thsen shut down and reinstall the
sound card
