Debbie Graham

I had a problem some time back where running sfc was asking for the
professional cd. Now it tells me I'm inserting the wrong home cd. How can
I fix this? Thanks

Too bad the mvp gave you adjustments that are for windows 2000.
Either way,you must have added another drive to the pc at some time, resulting
in youre cdrom or rw getting a diffrent letter in my computer.Default is D:
To fix this,go to run,type:regedit In regedit,expand:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,
software,microsoft,windows,set up,open installation sources.You'll see youre
cdrom or rw is still D: L.click on installation sources,go to
edit,modify,set the
letter to same as in my computer, close out,do the same for source path, once
thru,close out regedit.Rerun Sfc /Scannow

Professional cd and home cd are two different disks .

First I know professional and home are 2 different. Second, my XP has the
SP2 on it.

I went and put the i386 on my harddrive and it runs from there. It's even
faster doing it that way, not having to keep clicking the box that pops up.

Thanks for everyones help

What do you mean when you say "Second, my XP has the SP2 on it."? Do you
mean that your original Windows XP CD is one including SP2 or that the
copy of Windows XP on your computer has SP2?

Oh I was just answering in order of questions asked of me. Someone asked if
I had SP on my CD and if not I would have to slipstream or something like
that. I'm having a problem of it loading on startup now, every time I
reboot it runs, I don't want that to happen, how do I stop that?

What command did you use? Was it sfc /scanboot?

you restart the computer. The SfcScan DWORD value is set to 2 in the following registry
key when you run this command:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
• /Scanboot: Scans all protected system files every time you start your computer.
