SFC Checker problems (among others)

Started having problem with PC a week ago in that running two programs World
of Warcraft and SpyBot Search and Destroy causes the dreaded blue screen of
death (0x0A, x1A, 0x24, 0x4E, 0x C4, 0xD1, 0x8E, 0x7E 07F). Prior to then I
had know problems and not added any new hardware requiring driver updates
etc.

I've done the usual of mem testing, virus testing, defrag, changing hardware
(including to a month old mirrored HDD) still same issues. Decided to run
sfc /scannow having put i386 directory of CD (XP Home recovery) into root
directory and modified registry ( both.....\windows and windows NT) source
path to point to this location.

Don't know why, but decided to point source path back to CD and run again.
Expecting it to run through OK as files would of been restored to original
but it went looking to CD for files (?????). Repeated and same.

So, sfc doesn't appear to be working or have I forgot to do something????

1 further things to complete picture. I've yet to try again, but tried to
repair from CD (recovery console) and got blue screen of death

Currently if don't touch Warld of Warcraft and Spybot S&D runs OK (!?!)

Any help greatly apprecatied as to steps I shold be taking.

Rock,

Problem resolved but I must say what caused "it" to change I have no idea.

For some reason the BIOS had changed. I run an ASUS A7V333 Mobo with Athlon
2100+ CPU. The CPU clock speed was set to 1700 (and something). I reduced
this to 1300 and All OK in that I don't get bluse screens of death any more
and spybot runs OK. I can only assume the at around 1700 the CPU is on
overclocking knife edge.
