Setup hangs when starting w2k

I am trying to install windows 2000 on a HP Vectra VLi8 that I have just
rebuilt.

Windows 2000 has copied all of the files required accross and then the pc
restarts etc.

The installation then hangs at the windows 2000 splash screen with the
process bar at the bottom on 0%.

Does anyone know what the startup is attempting to do at this stage?

For diagnosing the problem I have tried booting a linux kernel up on the
pc from a floppy disk. this hangs while checking the hlt instruction,
could these problems be related?

Thanks,

James.

If you've just rebuilt it might appear to be a hardware problem.
Dont know 'how/what' youve rebuilt, but double check all connections/jumpers
etc.
