Setup error

During a recent attempt to reinstall windows XP, the install failed with the
following messages:
Installation failed: E\1386\asms. Error mesasge.
Data Error Cyclic redundancy check

Now the computer is caught in a loop and no matter how I try to start, it
goes to the same spot of the setup and stops with he same message. If I try
to cancel, it reboots to the same spot.

Any sugestions?

Ok, go into your Bios and set the cd-rom as the only device it sees so you
can format and reinstall XP or how ever you have to do it so you can
reinstall XP.

Lets hope the reinstall does not run into a problem this time.

Is this a retail Windows XP CD, or an OEM XP CD, or what ?
This sure points to a bad CD.

Definitaly points to a CD problem. check for any scratches or fingerprints.
Scratches cannot be fixed but you can carefully clean any fingerprints. You
can check this if can copy all the files of the CD onto a hardrive
