Setup Error Preventing Installation of Windows XP Recovery Console

[WinXP_Powered]

(Sorry for the cross-posting, but I really wasn't sure which newsgroup
was the appropriate for this problem.)

OS: Windows XP Professional w/SP2 and all the latest Windows Updates.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

When trying to install the Recovery Console, I enter:

F:\i386\winnt32 /cmdcons

and get the following critical error:

"Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer
is newer than the version on the CD."

Presuming this is being caused by Service Pack 2, what's the solution? I
would think others have encountered this problem, but a search in Help
and Support yielded no mention of the problem and solution.

You can still use recovery console by booting to xp cd,however to install
recovery console during boot option is no longer available once xp SP2 is
installed.You need to install recovery when only SP1 is installed,the message
is correct.

Thanks, Dave! That looks like my solution, alright.

But what about my installed updates and installed SP2? Does this mean I
have to roll everything back and redo all? Probably, huh?

No not at all. All you're installing is the RC which won't have any adverse
effect on any installed updates.

Should have also said you can just run;

winnt32.exe /cmdcons

from the \i386 folder of the integrated installation point you created.

It IS possible to install the Recovery Console AFTER installing SP2 and
all the Windows Updates. Dave's suggestion absolutely worked!

It works because it's all done by creating a COPY of Windows XP,
integrating SP2 into it, and then using that copy to install the
Recovery Console. This is all done WITHOUT touching the working/running
copy of XP on that PC.

Once I got the Network Installation version of SP2 and integrated it
with a COPY of the original Windows XP (in its own folder), I was able
to install the Recovery Console and the RC is now on my bootup menu.

I rebooted, selected the Recovery Console, executed some commands and
verified that it works.
