Setup Cannot read needed files for XP installation

I am installing XP on my laptop , I have loaded the setup fles, agreed to the
eula statement, reformatted the hard drive, and now I am getting "setup
cannot read "filename"" messages, I have the option of retrying, (doesn't
work), skipping, (warned not to), or exiting setup, ( counter productive to
reaching goal). I have tried using my desktop XP installation CD with the
same result. I have run diagnostic utilities on my hard drive and on my CD
Rom drive and they both pass with flying colors, I have tried compressed air
on the drive lens to ensure no dust. All to no avail. Any suggestions?

Failure to install an operating system is usually because of bad
hardware. Since you've already tested your hard drive and optical drive
and the same issue happens with a different cd, your next step is to
test the RAM. I prefer Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org.
