setup 2000, encounter invalid partition table

I have a system with XP and LINUX on one harddisk. Now I am tired of XP and
want to
install 2000 on it.
I boot the computer from the CD with the 2000 setup disk. I delete the main
partition with XP and format it, then the system copy some setup files into
the harddisk. After that the system reboot. When rebooting, the system
should reboot from the harddisk, but again it boot from the CD and redo the
jobs before. The setup process cannot go on.
I tried taking out the CD before reboot. I also tried change the booting
sequence in BIOS. But the system shows "invalid partition table". Obviously
there are some
setup files 2000 setup disk leave on the disk just now. Why the system
cannot find it?
I have a linux on my harddisk. It's installed on some last partitions and
it's boot record is on its own partition. I think no problem.
Hope some friends can help me to solve this problem. Thank you.

The "invalid partition table" message comes from your Master Boot Record.
Try recreating it, either by using the FIXMBR command from the recovery
console, or using FDISK /MBR from a DOS/Win9x startup disk, or using Linux
or third party tools.

Also ensure that the partition you installed to is primary and set as
active (bootable).

Best regards
