Setting up XP RAS

C

Chad

I have XP Pro and am trying to setup my machine to allow
my brother to dial in and get on my network. I have setup
an "incoming connection" via the create a connection
wizard, but when my brother dials in, my PC won't answer
the call.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Could this possibly be
fixed with updated modem drivers?

Thanks in advance,
Chad

Sometimes its a DIP switch setting (hardware switch on the modem) and sometimes its a software
setting. Check the users manual or manufacturers support web site for help with that... Here is one
example from US Robotics...

You would set this in your modems properties in the device manager. Look in the Advanced window for
the modem. I simply set a hardware switch on the bottom of my US Robotics modem.

It could possibly be fixed with updated modem drivers.

That's what I'd look at. Double check the properties of Incoming
Connections to be sure the modem is still checked off--sometimes it
"unchecks" as soon as you aren't looking! If that is happening, or, if it
stays checked, but, in fact, won't answer--an updated INF file is the usual
recommended solution. I don't have a lot of feedback about how often folks
to whom the prescription is given, actually succeed.
