setting up outlook express to email photos

I am so frustrated, this worked all the time in windows 98, I cannot figure
it out in xp.

I am trying to email photos. when I right click on the photo, and go to send
to mail recipient, it asks me if I want to make it smaller. it then asks me
to setup microsoft exchange, instead of automatically going to outlook
express. why is this? I cannot send photos as an attachment, cause I am on
dial up and I need to shrink them first.

also, in internet explorer, when I click on an email address link, it just
closes internet explorer, instead of taking me to the email program.

what am I doing wrong???

Make sure that Outlook Express is set as the default mail client.

From...
http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/faqs/why.htm#reregOE

To be sure OE is the default mail client, close OE, click Start | Run and
enter this command line, complete with quotes, spaces and the /reg switch:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

Of course change the path if you installed OE elsewhere.

Now click Start | Settings | Control Panel, double-click Internet Options,
then click on the Programs tab, and verify that OE is now the default email
client. (You can also get there from the IE Tools | Internet Options menu).
Then open OE and click Tools | Options, and at the bottom of the General
tab, verify that OE is set as the default. If it is, the "Make Default"
button will be grayed out. If not, click the button.]]

by doing this I was able to get email address links to work. However, I still
cannot get pictures to mail. When I click on send to mail recipient, it asks
me if I want to make them smaller, then goes to a box asking me to set up a
profile for either internet mail or microsoft mail. I have no idea what to do
here.
