By your description i am assuming you are using Outlook Express. There is a
guide to setting up mail accounts in Outlook express on my website
http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Click the Beginner Guides button and look
at guide number 2 in the Windows XP section.
I'm puzzled at the (i select LAN comment) I have never come across that
while adding a mail to Outlook express. (well not the usual way of adding
mail, anyway. Maybe it appears if you have to provide a secure password?)
Are you on a LAN? I have an dsl connection and have no problems creating
email accounts.
Run through the beginner guide on my site and try it again. If you can't
send email it is probably to do with the POP3 address you have entered.
Check with yuor ISP to make sure you have the correct address format.

sorry about the empty screen on the other post (i hit the wrong button )

i don't normally use outlook express for my mail. when i installed win xp,
microsoft outlook came with it. up till now i've had no use for it as email.
i have IE6 and i assume i also have outlook express.

about the LAN issue--- there's a screen that comes up as part of the
internet connection wizard that gives u 3 options on connecting to the
internet:
(1) dial up (2) LAN (3) set up my own connection. to be honest, i wasn't
sure what to put here so i chose LAN since i have DSL now instead of dial up

be that as it may, i'm going to your web site and look for the instructions
for setting up outlook express. one last question--- if i configure outlook
express for mail, will i also be able to use microsoft outlook for mail ?

Yes. Outlook Express is part of Windows.

Yes. Only one can be the default E-mail handler, but you can have
and use as many E-mail programs as you want.

5string, Now i can see where you are coming from with the LAN. Initially i
just looked at your original post and scratched my head trying to remember
seeing LAN option in the Outlook Express mail.

As for Microsoft Outlook you can also use this for mail. The creation of a
mail account is somewhat different to that of Outlook Express in that you
get a screen which asks the 'server type' for the email. If you are using
your ISP account you will need to select POP3 as the server. If you are
downloading hotmail to outlook (assuming your hotmail account allows you
to - older ones do, newer ones don't) you will need to select HTTP.

I haven't got round to putting a beginner guide on Microsoft Outlook Email
Accounts yet, but any problems you can either contact the newsgroup for
assistance or, if you visit the Contact Me page of my website, you can
contact me direct.
