Setting network printing security in Win2000

Deacon Brody

I am curious how I can set permissions for USERS and
POWER USERS to use the network printer.

I open the Security tab in the Printer Properties box
(for a networked printer) and change the security
settings. I have even gone so far as added the entry for
Everyone having the ability to Print, Manage Documents,
and Manage Printer. However, whenever those other users
are logged in (usually me logging them in to test and see
if they can print), printing is always denied and offline.

Am I missing something? Are there different
permissions I have to set in networking, or perhaps
spooling, to allow regular USERS and POWER USERS to print
to a networked printer?

Thanks in advance,
DB

If this is not a domain machine then make sure that the user accounts are on the
machine that is sharing the printer. Also you may want to check the Local Security
Policy user right assignment effective permission for "access this computer from the
network" to make sure that the proper users/groups are shown to allow access for
those users - generally users/everyone. --- Steve
