setting folder rights for limited user

I have just purchased a Dell computer for work with WinXP Pro downgraded
version with the ability to upgrade to vista later. I am setting up the
computer for work and need all users to use a limited access profile except
for me which would use the administrator account.

I have a program which works fine under the administrative profile, but
under the limited access profile it won't open due to access rights. I need
to set the rights for the folder under program files to full control for the
user group. This is what I did with the older computers running windows xp
pro and it worked fine. When I right click on the folder under the
administrative profile, I unchecked the box read only and it doesn't give me
the option to set the security rights. When I go back and check the folder
rights again it goes back to read only for the parent folder of the program
under program files. I went to regedit and found the ability to modify the
security rights there. I searched for the program file name and each time it
was found, I changed the security rights to allow the users to have full
control.

This did not solve the problem. I need to be able to have the limited user
account profile to have full access to this one program, last time I just
gave full rights to the folder and it worked. Any suggestions on how to make
this security rights change and keep the folder properties from saying read
only for some files within.

Thanks
Craig

See if this helps.

Go to Control Panel and double click Folder Options.
Click on the View tab.
Scroll to the bottom of the Advanced settings box and uncheck "Use simple
file sharing".
Click OK.

Now go back to the Program Files folder and right click on the folder that
contains the program in question. Select Properties from the menu. You
should now see a Security tab. Click on it. Add the User group and give them
Full Control permissions to this folder and any subfolders.

Good luck
