Setting characters per line

How do you set MS Word documents so that the characters
per line (CPL) are at a particular number? I want to do
this on a document by document basis so that it's
automatic as I type and return at 65 CPL. Also, can you do
the same thing on MS Outlook for e-mail text? I have MS
Word and Outlook 2002.

You can emulate it by using a fixed-pitch typeface (eg courier), then
setting the margins for the number of characters you need. It's not obvious
what you'd gain though. Any change to page size, margins, typeface, or font
size will throw the numbers out. What are you actually trying to do?

Outlook: go to Tools > Options. On the Internet Email tab, set the line
wrap.

I'm submitting articles to e-zine directory publishers,
and they require a limit of 60 to 65 characters per line.
