Setting/changing default CD player application

On inserting an audio CD into the CD drive Windows XP offers me a choice of
software which can paly it, eg Nero, Creative SB Live, Windows Media player
, etc. It also offers me the choice to make my selection the default in
future.
My preference is for Nero, so if I select it but later want to change to
another player how do I go about it within Windows XP.
Note that Nero's preference settings make no provision for "Make this
your default CD player" thus if I went for SB Live first presumably a change
to Nero would only be possible Windows XP surely.
Will appreciate advice.

Open My Computer, highlight your CD drive... or whatever drive you want to
change, then RIGHT click on it, select PROPERTIES, then AUTOPLAY and change
it to whatever you want.

Many thanks, one more feature of XP revealed. Raises another issue however,
namely, to play Audio CDs all the players I have are listed but on Music
Files only two. How do I add the other players to the Music File list
because my preferred player is not one of the two?

Again, many thanks.

You're very welcome! I'm sorry I can't help you with this problem, because
I'm not a Win XP expert either. I understand what you want to do, but don't
have a clue how to do it.

Maybe Byte or someone else will come along soon, and help you out. Hope so!

Contact the vendors of those applications and tell them to register for
AutoPlay. Since setting up a new AutoPlay handler involves registry hacking
(a fairly logical but lengthy series of edits under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
Version\Explorer\AutoPlayHandlers ), you really want them to set this up for
you. If they support it. =)
