Set Default Explorer Settings?

Is there any way possible to configure Vista and Windows Explorer to display
the entire directory and/or filenames when Explorer is being used?
Constantly resizing the display of the contents of Windows Explorer has
always been a PITA. Especially in Vista

Not entirely sure what you're after there, but you can set a folder to open
maximised.

eg right-click a shortcut to a folder > Properties > Choose 'Maximised' in
the 'Run' dropdown box on the shortcut tab

Hi Jon,

I'm talking about directory names and file names that can only be displayed
by enabling the Name column in Windows Explorer. When Explorer is opened the
name column will not autosize to fit what is being displayed.

So I'm wondering if there is some way to configure Windows Explorer so a
column can be sized to always display let's say 150 characters or whatever.
That would allow most filenames to be read by default each time an instance
of the Explorer is opened.

My instance of Vista Premium does not show any "Size all columns to fit" but
it does expose the More dialog which allows me to set column width and then
go to Tools > Folder Options to try to save and by --try to save-- I mean
settings will not persist. And I installed SP1 this afternoon.

Right click the column header and choose either "size column to fit" or
"size all columns to fit".

If you click "more" you can specify the column width.

Actually, Explorer must be in Details view to get resizing options from a
context menu --still-- what is set does not yet persist.
