services.exe is taking up to 100% CPU times

when I'm online, services.exe is jumping in between 20% -
100% CPU times.

I have already updated the latest service pack on my
Win2000 Professional OS. any ideas to avoid services.exe
in using up so much of my CPU times

(http://housecall.antivirus.com ) and perform an online scan of your platform.

May be some virus.

done the scan and no virus was found.

any other suggestion are welcome...
