I'm trying to load the driver for Hp deskjet f4180 on my dad's computer that
has windows 2000. The message came up that we needed to update from service
pak 2 to service pak 3. he doesn't have internet access, so what are the
possibilities? And what's the difference between the service packs.

Hi Tim,

Service packs are released by Microsoft every now and then to patch known
bugs and offer product improvements (such as adding more functionality to
Windows).

Windows 2000 is quite old now and newer harder such as your printer probably
relies on some new or updated features included in Service Pack 3 to work
properly. You can see specifics about what SP3 offers by visiting the
Microsoft website and searching for Windows 2000 Service Pack 3. They are
too numerous to list here and probably won't make much sense to the average
user.

I assume you have access to the internet somewhere since you created this
posting. My suggestion would be to download it from wherever you DO have
access and burn it to a CD then install it on your dad's PC. Alternatively,
if you have some really old (really really old) computer magazines, Service
Packs are sometimes included on teh CD/DVD supplied with the magazine. You
might be able to find SP3 for Win 2000 on an old disc. Otherwise, ... if you
work somewhere with a proper IT Support group maybe one of the techies will
have a copy of it they'll be happy to burn for you. I know we keep all old
SP's at my work...

Good luck
