You mean Service Pack, not Packs. There has only been one released
SP, SP1.

SP2 is in Beta and not yet released, except in trial form. Installing
it on your everyday use machine is tatamount to suicide for that box.

NobodyMan:

Not necessarily.
My suicide box as you call it (SP2 RC1 has been my main op system for
awhile) works well with the following:

Adware v6
AVG v6 free
BID v3.6 ccb
Bookshelf 96/97
Ethereal v.10.0
HP Photosmart 7350 ink jet printer & HP s/w
HP LaserJet 4M Plus
Incoming Connections (VPN server)
MBSA v1.2
NAV 2003
Netstumbler v.4.0
NIS 2003
Office 2000
Office 2003
PopUpCop v2.0.3.20
QuickTime v6.5.1
SAVCE v8.1
Spybot v1.3
Streets & Trips 2002
SuperScan
Syslog (thru ICF2)
TCPView
VPN (as a VPN client)
WiFi (802.11b)
WS_FTP98 LE (FTP client)
ZA free v 3.1.395

It also works well with various domain setups:
Win2k3 Server domain
SBS2k3 domain with or without ISA

Well I am kinda tight with money right now "Really tight" $ 9.95 seems like a little amount but I have car insurance comming up. Is there a way that I can download them and then save it to a cd so I don't have to keep downloading it?

In that case download the updates as that's what is on the disks.

Hi

You can download SP1a from here:

"Windows XP Service Pack 1a"
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/

You can download the Updates via the Windows Update page. Click on 'Windows
Update Catalog' and then follow the onscreen prompts.

As yet there is only one Service Pack for Windows (SP1). You can get a
free CD at http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

That includes SP1 and later critical patches up to Feb 2004. Also get
the following patches from the pages
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;nnnnnn
where nnnnnn numbers are

835732 (Sasser worm patch)
837009 (OE Cumulative)
832894 (IE Cumulative)
828741 (XP Cumulative)
828028 (ASN 1)
837001 (Jet Engine)

and burn the downloaded files to a CD

You, then, are a lucky SOB.

My point is still valid. Nobody in their right mind installs BETA
software (especially when it contains updates to the OS itself) on a
production machine. It just isn't sane.

Re: XP SP2 RC1 works fine as my main op system.

IMO, luck has little to do with it.
I did a clean install of XP Pro, then installed RC1, then installed one app
and tested it, installed next app, etc.
I will repeat these steps with RC2.
And, I am willing to reformat it, and go back to SP1 if RCx proves to be a
problem (without complaining).
My point is still valid. Nobody in their right mind installs BETA
software (especially when it contains updates to the OS itself) on a
production machine. It just isn't sane.

To some extent I agree with you, on the other hand, I need to know the SP
before a client installs it. The only way to do this is to use a beta/RC as
a main op system before the final release.
My point is (1) if you are willing to take the risk of it being a disaster,
then go for it (and do not complain if it explodes), and (2) using it is not
necessarily a disaster. Your comment suggests that it absolutely stupid to
use it as a main op system, I'm saying not necessarily.

PS: my main computer multi-boots between 9 op systems, so even though XP SP2
RC1 has been my main op system, if I had problems (I have not) then I could
just reboot and continue to work in another op system.

PSS: one of the advantages of using a beta extensively is you do not have to
rely on (or even read) today's (mktg driven?) reviews.
There was some "confusion" re: outbound control via ICF2. Using the betas,
removed that confusion.
There is some concern that SP2 will introduce program incompatibilities.
When a user posts, as I have, stating that RC1 has been very stable with the
following programs in a production environment, that should make some
readers feel better about using the final release.

XP SP2 RC1 works fine with the following:

Adware v6
AVG v6 free
BID v3.6 ccb
Bookshelf 96/97
Ethereal v.10.0
HP Photosmart 7350 ink jet printer & HP s/w

OK, how do I install Sp1 and all Critical Updates and put them on a cd? I cannot right click and hit "Save Target As.."

PS. Who cares if Sp2 works on people's PC's or not? It will when it is formally released, maybe not in beta.

The people who have to debate whether the service pack sucks or not. I don't care, I just want to find out how I can download the updates outside of the wizard they give so that I can burn them to a cd or put them on my other partition when I have to fdisk (if I ever would need to.)
