Hi all,
This may seem a very stupid question...if i download the
very latest serverice pack for Windows XP would it
include in it all the patches that windows have released
up to and including the serverice pack 2?

Service pack 2? I haven't seen a SP 2 for XP yet.

To answer your question, usually later service packs include the stuff from
earlier service packs. If they don,t they tell you to install the previous
one 1st. The only MS product that I know of that does that is Office 2000.
You have to install SP1 before you can install the others.

Hi, The "latest" service pack is Service Pack 1a.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 doesn't have a set date for release. The
Estimated time frame as of right now is mid-2004. The Windows Service Pack
Road Map can be viewed below with more information about it.

Kind Regards for replying so promptly. I will endeaver to
install the newest service pack for XP.
N.B. Does this new service pack include all the patches
for the virus threats Blaster etc.

Service Pack 1a for Windows XP does not include the fix to prevent your
computer from being infected by Blaster - that patch will need to be applied
separately (it's called MS03-039, incidentally). Make sure you turn on the
Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) on your internet connection before
connecting to the internet for the first time if you don't have this patch
installed already.

It's even possible for the computer to get infected *during* the setup
process (assuming you have an always-on broadband internet connection), so
the best thing to do is to unplug the PC from the internet all together
until you have the firewall turned on.

When Service Pack 2 for Windows XP is released later this year, it will
include the fix to prevent infection by Blaster.

No. There has been only one service pack, SP1 (and a variation of
it, SP!a, which is the same without the Java Virtual Machine).
There have been hotfixes since then, which are not included in
SP1 or SP1a. And SP2 is certainly not included, since it isn't
out yet.

Service Pack 2 has *not* yet been released, nor have all the items that
will come with it - it is currently only in Beta test
