Service Pack 4 and Password Authentication

Hi,

I wonder if any one has come accross a problem like this. In my
organisation we are running Win2k/Exchange 2k some Win2k workstation and some
XP. Recently we have installed SP4 to all the workstations, this was already
done to the servers. From the moment the installation hit the workstations
some users started to get prompted for Outlook/IM passwords. If they entered
their password correctly or incorrectly their account is locked out first
time. This seems to be happening to more and more users and the only way
round it is to unlock, reboot and login and it's fine. It does come back
later tho. You do seem to get a message unknown user name and password when
authentication is attempted after the outlook login box is displayed. This
only happens on W2k W/S straight after SP4 is installed. XP is fine and all
Workstations still on SP3 are fine.

Anyone got any ideas? This is becoming critical now.

Im not the exchange expert, but there is a setting for password
authentication type per your exchange server.

on the workstation right click outlook and select properties. Highlight
Microsoft exchange server and click properties. The advanced tab has several
options for logon network security. I beleive the default is NT password
authentication.

You might want to check this and see if that is your problem..
