Service Pack 2 screwed me

I installed windows xp pro service pack 2 just now, and
my computer would not come back on to windows, it was
stuck on the splash screen. I have had no luck trying to
go to previous configuration, and i cant get into safe
mode. basically i was screwed. So i installed a fresh
copy of windows into another directory. But i need all
my stuff back. Service Pack 2 is the devil, it has
screwed everything up. Anyone else had this problem, and
solve it???

See this KB article. It's about using the recovery console to
remove SP2. There's also some info on troubleshooting the
problem cause.

Dude, exact same thing happened to me.
I restored, then reinstalled sp1 which works fine.
My comp still takes much longer to start though.
