I downloaded the network installation xpsp1a_en_x86.exe,
but when i clicked on it, it tells me in command prompt
that "Program is too big for memory". I have a P4, 256 mb
RAM, with at least 150 free at the time. Am i doing
anything wrong??

I experienced this and found the message was misleading... it wasn't lack of
memory at all. If your problem is similar then the problem is not enough
space in the folder that Windows XP uses for temporary files. By default,
this is C:\Windows\Temp. The SP1 update needs to unpack itself first so
needs a considerable amount of hard disk space. Try cleaning out the
temporary folder and trying again.

You can check where the temporary folder is by:
1) Right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties' OR 'Start > Settings
Control Panel > System'.
2) Select the 'Advanced' tab.
3) Select the 'Environment Variables' button.
4) Check the value for 'Temp'... it will show where temporary files are
stored.

Hope this helps.

Rick
