Server Replication Software: What are folks using?

D

darrel

It's that time of the year again where we get annoyed with our internal
product and hope to find something newer and better out there. Alas, we
usually don't find anything.

The scenario:

We use a home-grown .net CMS product that we've built in a staging/live
server enviornment. We have one staging server and 2 live, load-balanced
servers.

Most web content is in the DB and migrated in a workflow manner from staging
to the public. However, documents and images need to be replicated via the
filesystem.

We've been using repliweb for years. And it works. Usually. But it's
termpemental, and can often go down seemingly randomly. The bigger issue we
have is its rather obtuse interface.

Is anyone familiar/using any other server replication software? Any
recommendations? Any newer products out there?

I suppose I should add that this is a .net CMS we built and it'd be GREAT if
there was a .net API for the replication software as well.

We've been using repliweb r-1 for web and content deployment for ages
- in our experience if our replications failed it's a result of an
internal change to our systems that weren't reflected in the
replication job properties. Try shooting their support team an email
- we can usually find the issue within two email cycles or a quick
phone call.

We recently upgraded to V4 which solved the occasional instability we
found on the console interface, in addition to allowing grouping,
tagging and search of distribution jobs. V4 also has a .net api and
deploys .net gac, iis metabase and files in a single transaction.
We've had good success implementing those features and they solved a
lot of our internal challenges.

Good luck!
