server rejected connection

We have an MS Access 2003 application that has odbc connection to a SQL
Server database. We recently upgraded the SQL Server from 6.5 (on NT) to
2000 (on an Win2003 machine). This is an interim step until we completely
upgrade our application to remove MS Access. Now that we have the SQL 2000
on a different server, we are getting errors " server rejected connection
access to selected database denied". We get this error when executing the
application. However, when linking the table using the odbc connection and
we can open the table from within Access. We have updated the odbc and
relinked the tables to the new server, but cannot understand why we get this
error. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
