Server>Administration Home grayed out/Broken links in theme...

Hi - I'm taking an online (which apparently really means "virtually no
instructor support") FP 2003 course at the local college so please bear with
me as I'm a complete newbie...

Among other things, after publishing to the http://localhost , we are
supposed to go to Tools, Server, Administration Home. But mine is grayed
out...Can anyone give me an explanation as to why this is happening and how
to fix it?

I'm running IIS 5.1 and Windows XP Pro. I even trying un- and re-installing
both the IIS and FP 2003 with no luck (and screwed up my laptop in the
process...ARGGGHHHH). No one else in the class seems to be having this
problem (or the following one) even though I've posted there as well.

Also, we are customizing an existing theme (replacing a bullet and changing
the font in the vertical and horizontal links is all). But when I save it
as a new theme and then apply it to my site, there are a bunch of broken
links just in the "_themes" folder (toolgrad.gif, "none", blank.gif and
dot.gif). Everything else is working fine. I uploaded the site anyhow
because it looked OK to me and even had my dad test it from his work
computer and he said it looked and worked OK too. When I contacted the
instructor, she merely states that there must be something wrong with my
installation or worse - but doesn't say what it might be. So I'm completely
at a loss.

If someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it. If I can't get this
fixed at home I'm going to have to spend HOURS driving to/from the college
to use one of their computers and I just can't bring myself to look forward
to that!!

Thanks VERY much in advance.

Did you actually open the server based web at http://localhost in FP
-- publishing to it does not open it

Oops - I'm not sure...I've been so busy trying not to take a hammer to this
thing that I may have overlooked that perfectly OBVIOUS point!! Jeez - I
actually hope that's it.

Thank heaven for everyone on the newsgroups who help those of us who are
struggling with something new and frustrating!

I *really* appreciate you taking the time to respond - I'll muddle further
and hopefully have something a little more cogent to ask about next time.
:)

But those broken links are still making me nuts...

Thanks again,
Susie

Success - I WAS trying to access it from the http://localhost/xxx from
within front page still with no luck as far as the Server>Adminstration Home
being grayed-out.

The problem turned out to be that I didn't have the 2002 extensions
installed (you would think they would come with FP 2003 - apparently not).
Now that I installed these I can access the adminstration home page no
problem.

The extensions are normally installed with you install IIS under Windows XP Pro. FP doesn't come
with the extensions.

Oh - well I guess that explains that...It's hell being this wet behind the
ears!! But I shall strive to improve!
