serious problem with SP2....maybe?

D. Verdugo

I have a serious problem with Windows XP Pro that I first
noticed after I installed SP2.
When I would try to right-click anything, my computer
would freeze up (but not become unresponsive), and I soon
found this could be resolved by ending DocWatson Post-
mortem debugger via ctrl+alt+del; I assumed it was a flaw
with the program, so I disabled it (using microsoft's
directions).
Now, whenever I try to right-click on anything, I get the
following error message:
Title: explorer.exe - Application Error
Content:
The INstruction at "0x028b415b" refrenced memory
at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program.

The refrenced memory is always different (but the
0x0000000 is always the same).
I've run lavasoft's ad-aware, spybot S&D, and two online-
virus scanners...I even ran microsoft's memory test
(through a bootable CD)...everything comes back clean.
Any ideas?

Did you seek updates for Ad-aware and Spybot before you ran them? Have you
upgraded to Ad-aware SE? Have you run CWShredder? Have you run HijackThis
and posted your log to a suitable forum (not here, please)?

Uninstall Divx, turn off DEP (data execution prevention) then reinstall Divx.
For extra security, turn DEP back on and add into the exceptions list
anything that uses Divx (ie media players, Divx itself).

Divx ver 5.2 causes just this type of problem. Uninstall and go back to
using version 5.1 and the problem will be gone.

Reverting to 5.1 did not solve it for me, I had to do the DEP disable
workaround for both versions.
